Steve Jobs recorded the Think Different voiceover himself. Then he scrapped it.

I’ve been really enjoying “Apple: The First 50 Years” by David Pogue.

Even after all the books that came before it, Pogue still digs up juicy stories. The payoff of years as a journalist plus exclusive interviews.

Here’s one that stuck with me.

The “Think Different” campaign. The “here’s to the crazy ones” ad. Steve Jobs actually recorded his own voiceover for it. Then he scrapped it and went with Richard Dreyfuss instead.

His reason: “If we go with mine, it’ll become about me. And this can’t be about me.”

(He also called the first script “crap” before approving it 17 days before air. Classic Jobs.)

🌶️ Hot take: It goes to show you that you must put your ego in check in service of the greater mission. If a giant ego like Steve Jobs can acknowledge that, we sure can too.

Worth a listen.
